Custom Built Virtual Control Room for The University of Southampton
TSC recently installed a custom-built Virtual Control Room at the University of Southampton’s Chemical Engineering Department.
The University recently invested £5.3 million for a brand-new state of the art chemical engineering facility which included a new chemical engineering laboratory, IT suite, tutorial rooms, and TSC’s immersive custom-built Virtual Control Room with linked instructor station and a complete set of TSC’s dynamic process simulations for classroom training.
Combining the use of high-fidelity dynamic simulation models to a VCR environment helps universities bridge the gap between theory and real-life for training in process control.
Students gain an in-depth understanding for what it is like to work on a processing facility as both a field operator and a control room technician. This system used to build their knowledge of plant design, HAZOPs, and process safety.
