SIM 4600 Oil Pipeline shows an oil pipeline with a pig launcher and receiver at either end. The purpose of this model is to show how the pressure in a pipeline changes as a pig passes through it.
The model includes various pumps which can be used to change the pressure profile and valves which need to be operated in a specific manner to allow pig progression.
There is a large graph at the bottom of the page which plots the pressure in the pipeline against the distance from the pig launcher showing how operation changes effect the pipeline pressure.
The model is designed to run at speeds much faster than real-time so the progression of the pig through the system can be observed without having to wait the usual hours.
